Geena Davis Reveals Jon Hamm Will Play Her Father In New Movie: 'It's Interesting!'

Geena Davis Reveals Jon Hamm Will Play Her Father In New Movie

However, when the actress, 59, starts work with Hamm, 44, on new sci-fi drama Marjorie Prime it could turn out to be quite a surreal experience for the star.

"Jon is actually playing my father!" Davis reveals about the project, which she describes as "an interesting story that has a sci-fi element to it."

"I'm so excited to work with him and was so happy when he won the Emmy. He is such a good actor," she adds.

And while acting is something Davis still enjoys doing, she says these days her main passion is working with her institute on Gender in the Media.

Davis, known for playing strong female characters in films such as Thelma & Louise and A League of Their Own, points out that for every one female-speaking character in family-rated films there are roughly three male characters and that crowd scenes consist of only 17 percent female characters.

But she says there is two simple steps filmmakers can take to help end this discrepancy.

"I say before you cast a scene, go through and change a bunch of first names to female characters. Second, when it says in the script 'crowd gathers' just put a comma after that and add, 'half of which is female.'"

She also just launched her first film festival, Bentonville Film Festival, which champions women and diversity in media and already has provided distribution to films such as In My Father's House, which opens in October.

She hopes her work will proactively impact women and diversity in Hollywood in front of and behind the camera.

"We really want to make change happen," says Davis. "I am all about change."
